The application process with an assessment by Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) member from a referral made via the My Aged Care website. This will give you an assessment called a National Screening Assessment Form (NSAF). This assessment may also be attended as an inpatient whilst in hospital. You will then be provided with codes that you can give to your preferred aged care providers. At the time of going into care, you will need to provide the facility with an assets assessment from Centrelink as Centrelink will determine if you are required to pay a means tested fee, not the provider.

There are options of RAD, Residential Accommodation Deposit and DAP, Daily Accommodation payment. This is dependent upon your financial situation. Your asset assessment may play a part in determining which financial course is right for you. Advice from an independent financial advisor is always suggested before making any commitment. Additional costs that you may incur are dependent on your Residential Agreement and your individual circumstances. In general these will be your medications, any medical tests or associated transport costs, provision of clothing, individual medical items such as glasses and hearing aids, etc.
